better than the lottery, part deuce

April 23, 2008

as promised, my second lottery entry.

more candor called me on friday (i think it was) and advised me that he would be sending me a book. not any book, but an ADVANCED COPY OF A BOOK.

i jumped up out of my chair scaring everyone at our dinner table and yelped with joy. my heart did a dance of happiness.

the book is none other than my home-boy AUGUSTEN BURROUGH’S new book, “a wolf at the table”.

(don’t tell him that i called him home-boy just in case that would offend him.)

the release date is april 29th and i’ve already ordered it.  (NOT PRE-ORDERED IT MIND YOU) if you say “pre-order”, somewhere in texas a beautiful man’s head will pop off and punch you in the eye.

lucky for me, i will be getting a second copy. both of these i will treasure just as i do all of his other books, and kept in a very safe place.

i am almost halfway through the book and i love it, it IS different than anything he’s ever written before. i’ve heard augusten mention on the video on the barnes and noble link that he doesn’t write “for” anyone. he writes his truth and he’s fortunate that so many people relate to his truth.

i have nothing but love for you augusten, and your little dogs too!

better than the lottery

April 23, 2008

i mentioned in another post that i received gifts in the mail last saturday.

not just any gifts, but ones that made me feel like i won the lottery two times in the same day.

i wish to showcase one of those gifts in this post and will showcase the other in another post. both items, so awesome they require their own space.

the first item was a gift from rayhart.

i’ve mentioned before that i met him about 10 years ago at a red lobster while on a date. it turned into an enchanted evening in so many ways, mainly by making the acquaintance of ray, a person i’d never met but felt like we’ve been traveling together for many lifetimes.

(you must note this was pre-internet social networking sites and mainstream blogs.)

while doing some spring cleaning about a year ago, i found some artwork of his that he gave me that night almost 10 years ago. i looked him up and found his studio web page. i sent him an email hoping he remembered me, he did which made me happy to know that our encounter was mutual. there was the date person who is awesome but i don’t know where he is anymore.

as most of you know if i see/experience/feel/think something is amazing i am going to share it here, as well as telling anyone else in person that will listen.

ray in his gentle and giving way, prized me with two of his art pieces, along with a handwritten note.

these are the photos of his art that he sent to me (TO KEEP!)

ray you are an amazing inspiration with a beautiful soul, thank you so much for sharing your work with me. these are priceless to me, and i cannot wait to display them in my home.
