This is an amazing poem that was published in the Sun Magazine, January 2008 Issue 385.
I contacted the author and asked his permission to re-post it here. Lucky for me and YOU, he gave me permission.
This poem really moved me. It contains within the entire human experience, including emotions in few words making it a true work of art with words.

Piglet! This made me cry. What a wonderful and accurate depiction of life exactly. I especially love the choice of words and phrases, making it all the more real. It’s almost as if I knew, at every line, what was coming next. I’m going to go read it again…

Dear Piglet,
Thanks so much for including me on your wonderful blog! It’s always great to be in the company of fellow writers–of which you most certainly are one!–and great to hear such fantastic feedback. Honestly, I’m always reluctant to call myself a writer, too. Anyway, so much about the writing process happens in such lonely ways, it’s almost a miracle to have somebody actually REQUEST permission to use a poem. I mean, getouttahere. You’re my hero!
Plus, now I have this awesome blog to visit! Face it, you’re stuck with me….

OMG!
i still can’t believe you allowed me to post it here. i will liken it to winning the lottery to have you as a visitor here on the ‘ol piglet blog
i wish you much fame and many riches.
whatever you’re doing to create such beautiful words, keep it up.
with much respect,
piglet

As a long time friend of Mr Anderson, I must tell you that he is as awesome as the poem!!! I LOVED reading your description of asking to reprint the poem here. I was giddy (and nervous) right along with you even though I already knew you had permission.

Isn’t he wonderful? And I had the distinct privilege of working with him at the beginning. That IS a wonderful poem.

It is always nice to “meet” someone who has such good taste in poetry.
Mr. Anderson is one of the good guys.
We are proud to know him.
We are proud to say he is our friend.
And with one of those really-big- sized-lumps-in-the-throat
that parents get we are proud to say he is our son.

d. anderson: i am humbled by your comments about your son, the love is evident and that always brings about the warm fuzzies. thank you so much for stopping by and leaving your comment.

I too am amazed and grateful for this poem. Knowing Eric for just a short time here in SMA I sensed that there was a lot of wisdom and poetry there. It´is nice to know my intuition is still working.

Thanks for posting this. I read the Sun cover to cover and loved this poem, but it’s not available on line from their website, but I found it here. I’m going to share it with some of my middle aged male friends. Good job, piglet.

Hello,
I’m actually trying to track Eric Anderson down.
I love his poem and I read it in the spiritual writing
workshops that I teach…right before we delve into
why we chose the parents we did.
Do you happen to have his email address or a
phone number?

Eric is a Rock Star, always knew that about him. I was digging around online looking for him as I am soon taking a trip home, I guess I should have searched for him again sooner. As many others have, I had the honor of sitting in classrooms with him as others ripped our words apart and I could always count on him for kind words. So Eric…if you happen to read this, I am so glad that others recognize your talent. Maybe you remember me, I took off for Alabama and married life, leaving our little poetry group behind for the solitude of farm life lol. And as I see I am not the only one who has made an attempt to track you down. When you have people stalk you for your talent…well…you are obviously doing something right.
