queensryche

July 6, 2007

you know how you forget that you like a band? a band that you were particularly very excited about? yeah, well i had forgotten about my good friends queensryche.

i love them. i’ve met them. eddie jackson could tell that i was a complete retard so he played a trick on me. he said, “boo!” and i jumped. hey eddie, that was mean. all is forgiven as i see that you are a fellow aquarian. so no hard feelings. i prolly woulda done it too.

queensryche is by far the best concert that i have ever attended in real life. in fact, at the time i thought to myself “geoff looks like he’s had opera training“. i found out later that i was right.

i’m such a good guesser.

operation mindcrime is by far my favorite album out of them (empire falling in a close 2nd). on the mindcrime album, all of the songs are like a chapter in a book. much like pink floyd’s “the wall”. and, much like an opera.

the way i got to meet them is a fun story. fun for me anyways. years ago a local radio show held a contest giving away tickets. (i think the show was sold-out.) i guess the contest went on for 2 or 3 weeks and each day i dialed and dialed and dialed. i was never one to win things.

it was the last day to win and i was past weary and feeling as if the universe was conspiring against me until i died a sad, miserable death with no queensryche concert.

a fluke of nature, the clouds parted and the heavens granted me the one wish i had at that time and i got through the lines and won.

i had no idea that not only would i get to see the show but i got to go backstage and meet them. i cannot tell you what an idiot i was, starstruck and mesmerized.

(lucky for them, i didn’t scream. i can scream. in fact, back in my boy george days i would scream every time i saw him on tv or heard him on the radio a scream would leave my body. i had no control over it.)

queensryche has released their newest album, operation: mindcrime II.

i am excited since i literally wore out two cassettes of the first mindcrime album. (that was before cd’s you youngsters.)

it’s amazing to me to realize how much i loved that band, loved their concerts, and loved meeting them. equally amazing that it all got pushed into the back of my mind. i still have the cassette tapes and poster that they signed for me. those are locked away kept as the hidden treasures they are to me.

you can hear samples of the new album on their myspace page. if you are into that kind of music that is.
