so, how was your day?

April 16, 2007

as i mentioned in my earlier post, luke is sick. again. or maybe he never got rid of the first sick and it just went into hiding and came back out with a fucking vengeance.

he threw up two more times before we left the house. i seem to always be in the right place at the right time for my kids to throw up.

when our daughter was around six or seven she had a week long illness with high fever, throwing up and dysentery. i was in her bed with her rubbing her back. suddenly she sat up, and i could tell something bad was going to happen. i instinctively cupped my hands for the arrival of her innards.

on the way to his doctor’s office he asked me to pull over. then he told me he had to get out of the truck. so i unbuckled him. he got out, telling me that he just needed to lay down for a minute. so he got out, and laid down on the rocks and gravel. on the side of the road.

i wondered how i should handle that. so i called my husband, he couldn’t actually solve the dilemma but just having him on the phone allowed me to come back to my senses. i asked luke if he could get back into the truck. i told him he could lay down in the truck. he said that what about the seatbelt part? and i thought good question.

i raised the last row of seating in our truck and he lay down and i put both seatbelts around his body and locked him in. off we go again. on the interstate, he asks me to pull over once again. so i did and got in the back to see what he needed. he thought he might throw up so i got a plastic bag to put in front of him in case he needed it.

once at the doctor’s office the place was crammed with kids and babies. (i wasn’t informed there was a plague epidemic going on in the world .)

he sat in the chair for a couple of minutes while i signed him in. shortly after, he got down off of the chair and laid down on the floor. of the doctor’s office.

i cannot tell you how many times my head spun around like carrie in the movie. at least 50 i swear. doctor’s offices are the dirtiest places in the world. and the floors? worser than anything.

typically this office doesn’t run too far behind but today was different. we got into the room and the nurse asked me about his symptoms. she left and we were waiting for the doctor. i was rubbing luke’s back, reading to him and trying to field his question of where is the doctor.

his stomach was really hurting him and please mommy is there anything you can do? he got up and informed me he needed to throw up. so i got him off the table and to the trashcan. he missed the trashcan on the first try and it got all over the floor, the cabinets, me and he.

i opened the door to tell them what happened, then back in the room to help clean him up. still no doctor. i walked out and asked if i should just take him to the ER (which is quite close). i was getting into my angry space and god forbid i lose it and yell all up in the doctor’s office, scaring the children.

the doctor came shortly after that and she doubted that this had anything to do with the tick bites since lyme is more common in the northeast. she sent us home after checking him out with orders for pedialite and saltine crackers in small doses.

our kids are rarely sick. we are very lucky that way and do not feel superior about it in any way. it’s the luck of the draw, all kids are different. i try to feed them healthy and we all take a combination of 17 fruits and vegetables every day in a pill and gummy form. these kids have great genes.

on the way home, i put him in the back again so he could lay down. watching him every second from the mommy mirror, i asked him if he was ok. he didn’t respond. his eyes looked as if they’d rolled back into his head and he was even more pale than when we left the doctor’s office. so i pulled over again and got into the back to make sure he hadn’t passed out or somehow stopped breathing.

it’s funny how when your kids are sick your logic just rolls right out the door on skates.

as of around 8:40 tonight, he was sleeping and hasn’t expelled any more toxic chemicals from his body and i was even able to have a small tickle session and he laughed. then he got tired and said he needed a rest.

a few more things

April 16, 2007
  • i drove up to raleigh, nc on saturday morning to visit magical. while there, i met her new beau, got to see my niece who is newly pregnated, got to see my other nephew who is 11 (magical’s son), we had a dog party (FOUR BIG DOGS), i fixed her pc, i drank some of magical’s iced tea that is from the gods (i rarely drink sweet tea b/c most folks do not have any clue on how to make it properly, and no it doesn’t involve buckets of sugar.)
  • “making good time” whilst traveling is very important to me. i made good time on both ends of the trip. (perhaps i am half man).
  • my son and our dog sunday came with me, husband had to work and daughter was away. son slept on both trips to and from which gave me the opportunity to finish the “women who run with wolves” book on cd. (i tried to read the actual book about 10 years ago but i couldn’t stick to it.) i think that i would like for this woman to read me bedtime stories. her voice is like butter.
  • my son is going to the doctor this morning, he was feeling better with no fever. he did get two ticks on him while playing at magical’s with his cousin. not sure if that is a factor but i’m not taking any chances. he had another fever last night along with dysentery. and? he just threw up all over my bed. poor buddy.
  • in addition my newly pregnated niece’s youngest dog got a tick on his face and i pulled it out. i love removing ticks, not sure what that says about me, don’t care.
  • my throat is sore and i’m coughing up ugly mucous. yum.
  • scott, i have a tendency to be very slow at times. when i first read your comment, i wondered what on earth could that mean? then, it hit me. i haven’t posted. thanks for your time in visiting and caring enough to comment. you, my friend are an angel for me.
